For myself being someone who gets lots of event video, having a way of having some representation of content of the videos in a preview environment would be super useful to identify what video I am looking for to edit and is not something that most if any video editing software gives you, as far as I am aware. I know there have been comments in the past that this could make XNview more crash prone, but if this is all configurable, it could be left turned off as default and only turned on by the adventurous users who would like to use it / beta test it.įinal stage would be to mimic video sharing sites where an animated gif or something is created for each video that animates on mouse over, but that is just wishful thinking. Like I said I know XNviewers main aim is not for video, but the frame work for the above appears already mostly been put in place. Maybe you would want bigger thumbnails with more captures, like 6, etc. So say if you have enough storage space, processing power, etc. The next improvement would be to allow users to define the percentages through the video the captures are taken, as happens if the thumbnail is set to single frame capture mode.Īfter that allowing users to define the amount of captures taken per video. The first improvement would be to change the first frame to something like 5% as for some videos the first frame is black, so that is 1 of the 4 captures showing nothing. The times on the video when the captures are taken are hard coded to be captured at frame 0, then 25% through, 50% and 75%, it looks like. I think it might be time that this part of the program get a lick of paint and a freshen. That was a great improvement, but has not really moved forwards since then. So a few years ago, the feature got added that thumbnails could be made up of multiple snap shots from the file. xnview Author of XnView Posts: 41090 Joined: Mon Oct 13. The first thing i do after installing xnview mp is to change the right button to move picture. I know XNview is primarily a photo view and editor, but the frame work is already pretty much there. it is easy to accidentaly move the mouse when one presses a button on an external mouse, maybe 2-3 pixels is enough, i doubt a lot of people moves the image that short of a distance. Thanks to "Dreamer" for contributing and reviewing the information on shortcut keys September 2007.I wanted to request an improvement of how videos are displayed as thumbnails. Many of the keyboard/mouse shortcut keys are set in Tools > Options > General > Keyboard/Mouse.įor an in-depth discussion about shortcut keys, and how to extend XnView's shortcut keys, see the XnView forum topic How to change, or/and create new keyboard shortcuts. The location of the option is noted in the following sections, where possible. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find the menu or option where the change can be made. Many of XnView's shortcut keys are customizable, meaning that they can be changed by the user. Experienced users normally prefer the shortcut keys to using the mouse and menus, because it is faster. Note that off to the right of the words "File Listing" the menu shows "Shift+L." That means that the keystoke Shift (holded) plus the "L" key takes you straight to the File Listing function. If you frequently create file listings, for example (and this is a really excellent feature of XnView that can be used for many purposes!), you would use the menu Create > File Listing. The best way to learn the shortcut keys is simply by looking at the menu option you use to execute an operation the shortcut key is normally shown on the menu, to the right of the description of the operation. Moreover, there are some Mouse Shortcuts. Many of the keystrokes depend on the mode in which XnView is operating, so the following lists of shortcuts are broken down into three sections, based the display mode: Browser Mode, Viewer Mode, or All Modes (i.e., keys that work the same in both modes). XnView has shortcut keys for most actions that one might want to perform.
